El Hijo Prodigo

El Hijo Prodigo is a project carried out by Alessandro Speri, who grew up in a well-known family of Valpolicella winemakers. He wanted to produce quality wines in Mendoza, Argentina, so he went for it. In Mendoza it concentrates a large part of Argentine wine production; here the Malbec is born and there are more than 1200 wineries. In Mendoza you can also find the highest peaks of the American continent; the soils are deep, permeable and poor in organic matter and the long and frequent sunny days, as well as the strong temperature variations, favor the ripening of the grapes and the concentration of their aromas. In Mendoza the vineyards start at the altitude of 600 meters above sea level, up to 1700 meters; the dry climate, with low levels of rainfall and humidity, allows the vines to grow healthy and luxuriant, without the need for special treatments. In particular, Alessandro has chosen for his company the terroir of La Consulta where, compared to the rest of the Uco Valley, there are greater temperature variations and even in autumn, when temperatures drop everywhere, the days remain warm, allowing the tannins to reach their optimum point of ripeness; the nights, then, very cool, do not allow the acidity levels of the grapes to drop too low. Alessandro's intent is to give full value to his production, with meticulous work and attentive care, which never leaves out any detail.
