Château Léoville Las Cases

Château Léoville Las Cases was founded in 1638 and is one of the oldest estates in the Bordeaux wine region. Over the centuries, its property passed under the control of the most influential families of the French high aristocracy, until it came into the hands of the Las Cases. Currently the winery belongs to the Delon family, and is part of the "Domaines Delon" estates.
The estate is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, in that region of France that responds to the name of Médoc, one of the most suitable terroirs for the production of great red wines in the entire world.
The vineyards, still today surrounded by a stone wall, extend over about 55 hectares, and the rows, from which the Saint Julien "Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases" is produced, are the beating heart of the estate. A territory of particular value, which extends from the town of Saint-Julien to the borders of the famous Château Latour. The grounds of the Château have always been considered among the most profitable in the area, and consist of gravel deposits from the Quaternary, which rest on a subsoil composed mainly of skeleton, sand and clay. The presence of the Gironde river guarantees a mild climate throughout the year, which allows an early ripening of the grapes, without the risk of frost, always delivering grapes of the highest quality. In the vineyard you’ll find those red grape varieties typical of the area, namely cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and merlot, grown with extreme care and great dedication.
Every year, the Château Léoville Las Cases makes two labels: first of all the "Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases", a wine that is always mind blowing, in which extraordinary, combined olfactory notes and a sumptuous gustatory progression meet. Since 2007 the Château has also been producing a second wine, “Les Petit Lion”, a fresher and more immediate expression of the Saint Julien terroir.
