Castello Romitorio

The town of Montalcino, with its enchanting landscapes, rises not far from the city of Siena, on a hilly area on the north-west side of Monte Amiata. Here the climate combines the cool currents of northern Italy with the more Mediterranean temperatures of the south, ideal for viticulture, as evidenced by the great successes that the wines made in this area have among enthusiasts and collectors. Right here stands Castello Romitorio, a very renowned winery, where olive oil and grappa are also produced alongside wine; since 1984 the complex has been owned by Sandro Chia, a Tuscan artist and one of the main members of the Italian Transavantgarde movement - known in Europe as Neo-Expressionism -, whose works have been exhibited several times in Venice and Paris. An important personality, a wine lover, who in the early years of ownership of the Castle devoted his endeavor to renovating the premises and planting new vines. Today the structure extends over about 190 hectares, about 15 of which are vineyards. Castello Romitorio also owns the Ghiaccioforte estate in the area surrounding Scansano. Two different estates, where both traditional native grapes and international varieties are grown, which, under the watchful eye of Stefano Martini, are transformed into wines of absolute excellence, where quality comes first. Few bottles produced each year, about 150,000, where alongside the great Brunello di Montalcino, among which the "Filo di Seta" stands out, you can also find Morellino di Scansano Ghiaccioforte, Chianti dei Colli Senesi and Toro Toscana IGT, with a range of products capable of satisfying the expectations of the most heterogeneous consumers with excellent results.
