In Castelnuovo dell’Abate, the most suitable area for the production of Brunello di Montalcino, Poggio di
Sotto captures the noblest essence of Sangiovese.
The 48-hectare property only counts 20 dedicated to vineyards, which are planted across a variety of terrains
that differ with altitude. The vines, grown using organic methods, flourish between 190 and 440 meters in
altitude on steep ridges at the foothills of Mount Amiata. The extinct volcano dominates the horizon and acts
as a shield against unfavorable weather from the sea.
There is one unanimously chosen variety in the vineyards: Sangiovese, with its over 182 biotypes that grow
freely between the rows. Today, this extraordinary ecological niche represents the most distinctive feature of
Poggio di Sotto: a botanical archive containing the historical adaptation of Sangiovese, a variety that encloses
its own universe of wonder.
All the wine produced is classified – in the vineyard – as Brunello di Montalcino. Tasting and careful selection
are carried out during the maturation process to identify the lots that will contribute to the creation of Rosso
di Montalcino, Brunello, and the Riserva wines.
An exemplary estate that invests extensive effort in vineyard selection to capture the quintessence of Tuscany.
A winery that has chosen perfection as its only qualitative horizon, yielding timeless Brunello di Montalcino
wines highly acclaimed by international critics.
