Tasting Notes

This light straw-coloured white wine boasts lovely aromas of white-fleshed fruit such as pear and white peach, as well as a gentle citrusy hint of grapefruit. Whereas in the mouth, it is fresh and features a nice complexity that is characterised by a distinct mineral quality and a wonderfully captivating long finish.

Pairings

While a great choice for Italian-style aperitivo, “Anthilia” is a white wine that also pairs extremely well with dishes featuring lightly smoked fish, shellfish and anchovies or with baked pasta and rice dishes. We suggest you try it with a tuna fish salad.

Looking at the national production landscape, it is not easy to find other companies that in Italy identify themselves so deeply with their own territory, as Donnafugata manages to do with Sicily.
This winery, founded in the 80s by Giacomo Rallo, represents the renaissance of wines not only of the province of Trapani and Marsala, but arguably of all of Southern Italy, thanks to an idea of its own land that is traditional and modern at the same time. Let's start with the name, "Donnafugata", literally "woman on the run", which refers to the story of the wife of Emperor Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, Queen Maria Carolina, who at the beginning of the 19th century, when the Napoleonic troops arrived, fled to Sicily, finding refuge right where the estate’s vineyards are currently located.
Vineyards that today reach an extension of 410 hectares in production, conducted in a sustainable and extremely respectful of the environment way. The same can be found in the cellar, where the work processes and the use of technologies fully protect the integrity of the grapes, musts and wines.
Today, 4 decades after that distant 1983 - the year the company was founded - Donnafugata embraces all the great production areas in Sicily: from the legendary vineyards of Pantelleria to the ancient cellars in Marsala, passing through Etna and Vittoria appellations, up to the Contessa Entellina estate, in the heart of Western Sicily.
Their wines tell the incredible Sicilian sensorial universe. Whites, Reds, Rosé wines, Sweet and Sparkling wines: Donnafugata wines are characterized by impeccable quality, thanks to a production process, from the vineyard to the cellar, which is meticulously followed in every detail. It’s therefore no coincidence that wines such as Passito di Pantelleria "Ben Ryé", "Chiarandà" or "Mille e una notte", but also "Anthìlia", "Lumera" and "Sedàra", have literally marked the tastes of generations of enthusiasts. Mythical, timeless wines.
