MICHEL GAHIER

The Gahier family has lived in the Jura since 1525. The family estate covers 6.5 hectares and is located in the village of Montigny-les-Arsures, which is best known for producing red wines from the Trousseau grape variety.

Trousseau is a rare and capricious grape variety that has adapted well to the semi-continental climate of the Jura region. However, due to the difficulty of cultivation, it is grown on a very small scale and is difficult to find in its pure form. It is often added to Poulsard to give it finesse.

Michel Gahier, who grows it alongside Chardonnay, Melon and Savagnin, learned from the best; he is a friend and neighbour of Jacques Puffeney, an emblematic figure of Vin Jaune d'Arbois.

The constant interaction with such a renowned winemaker has undoubtedly enriched Michel and helped him consolidate his skills, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

Michel's wines are produced according to biodynamic farming guidelines; both the whites and the reds are distinguished by their quality and purity and are a clear expression of their native territory.

Michel is a measured, reserved but highly talented winemaker; he meticulously tends his own vineyards and follows the maturation of his wines with great dedication.

Among these, his pure Trousseau, produced from vines over 80 years old, is undoubtedly worthy of mention. The vines are grown on gentle slopes completely exposed to the sun, allowing the grapes to ripen perfectly, and the marl on which they grow ensures the wine's minerality.

His Trousseau is deep, complex and intriguing; the tannins give it structure but are not aggressive, and the wine is rich, intense and incisive on the nose, with good persistence and certainly expressive.
