GEORGES LAVAL
A récoltant-manipulant in Cumières, a small village north-west of Epernay in the Vallée de la Marne, Maison Georges Laval has been firmly committed to a completely organic farming philosophy since 1971, which has earned it ECOCERT certification.
The company is managed by Vincent Laval, who follows in his father's footsteps as a vigneron, but interprets each harvest personally, preserving the nature and environment surrounding the vineyards and limiting himself to accompanying the Champagne on a journey where man has very little to do.
The estate's vineyards now cover a total of around 2.5 hectares, of which about one hectare belongs to the “Les Hautes Chèvres” plot, a vineyard dating back to 1930 and one of the oldest in the entire Cumières terroir. They are planted with the classic AOC grapes, namely Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
The vineyards are all south-facing and classified as Premier Cru; about half of them are over 30 years old. Obviously, organic farming practices are followed between the rows, but that's not all: to prevent pesticides used by hypothetical neighbours from contaminating the vines, the Georges Laval winery also treats around thirty extra acres that it doesn't own with its own products, thus ensuring continuity of organic farming.
Vincent Laval produces around 9,000 bottles per year, divided into five labels: a classic Cuvée made from Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir produced in two versions (Brut and Brut Nature), a vintage Blanc de Blancs, “Les Chênes”, a Blanc de Noirs in the Brut Nature version, “Les Hautes Chèvres”, and a Rosé made from Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir.
Pure and complex Champagnes, characterised by a beautiful mineral length, which authentically and clearly reflect the profile of their terroir of origin.
