Viña Real

The history of Viña Real is intertwined with that of the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, better known by the acronym of "CVNE", a company founded in 1879 and created by two brothers, whose descendants are still involved in the management of the company. Located in the city of Haro, in the Rioja region in Spain, the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, since its origins, has focused on the production of wines of gret aging potential, building four distinct cellars for the purpose: "Cvne", "Imperial" , "Viñedos del Contino", and "Viña Real", the latter dating back to the exact year 1920. And it’s in 1920 that, together with the construction of the cellar, the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España launched the brand of “Viña Real”. Back then, the practice of oaking wine for such long periods was a real innovative revolution. Over the decades it’s established itself as a typical production practice of the entire Rioja region. A magical place, Rioja, whose vineyards overlooking the Ebro basin are protected by the nearby mountains, and can thus enjoy an ideal climate for the perfect ripening of the grapes. In the vineyard, the vines are grown in full respect of the environment and ecosystem, and they benefit from soils with a particularly favorable composition for viticulture. In the cellar, the vinification and aging premises were completely renovated in 2004, the year in which Juan Carlos I, King of Spain, inaugurated the structure which is one of the most technologically advanced cellars in the whole of Spain. Basically, an iconic as well as historical estate, a perfect synthesis between tradition and modernity, capable of producing extraordinarily elegant labels and truly timeless wines.
