Eugenio Collavini

The family tree of Collavini winery allows us to look back to the end of the nineteenth century: it was in 1896 when Eugenio decided to found his own winery in the small town of Rivignano, near Udine. At the beginning of his adventure, Eugenio used to supply the main noble families of the area, as well as some. When the reins passed down to Giovanni, he led the company in the period between the two World Wars, and then to his son Manlio, a key figure in the development of Collavini. In fact, Manlio was among the first to export Friuli wines around the world, realizing how the commercial horizons, in a climate of renewed international peace, were to be expanded; not only that, he also took upon himself the endeavour of transferring the cellars to Corno di Rosazzo, and to introduce new vines and winemaking methods. Today, alongside Manlio, his sons Giovanni, Luigi and Eugenio, carefully watch over more than 170 hectares of property, spreaded onto the two most prestigious DOCs in the entire region: Collio and Friuli Colli Orientali. The vineyards are farmed with white and red grapes, both native and international, such as chardonnay, pinot noir, ribolla gialla, pinot grigio, sauvignon, friulano, merlot, picolit, verduzzo giallo, pignolo, refosco, schioppettino and cabernet sauvignon. More than 20 labels have been created by the Collavini team, where alongside a selection of whites - "Broy" stands out, a Collio Bianco awarded with 5 Grappoli by the Bibenda wine guide, as well as "Blanc Fumat" - and red wines, we find a remarkable selection of sparkling wines, where the Ribolla Gialla Brut shines, a real intuition of Manlio, who since the 70s makes it one of the excellences among Italian bubbles, as confirmed by the 3 Bicchieri award assigned by the Gambero Rosso wine guide.
